Well, if you are one of those people that believe adventure and danger has to go side by side, we are sorry to disappoint you, but the Brazilian Amazon and all the rides you’ll enjoy staying at Juma Lodge aren’t dangerous at all (assuming you’ll listen carefully to our guides). Of course this doesn’t mean you won’t experience adrenaline. Tree climbing, fishing piranhas, sleeping in the middle of the jungle and holding a cayman with your own bare hands looks very exciting!
Also, a great advantage of our hotel is that it’s located in a region where the water acidity level is high and mosquitoes don’t reproduce.
Anyhow, travelling to a different part of the world always requires some caution and attention to a number of things that can prevent anyone from having an unpleasant experience.
Right, so what should I be aware of when planning a trip to the Amazon Rainforest?
Yellow fever is a risk in certain parts of Brazil, therefore this vaccine is even recommended for own brazilians to take when traveling to other states. CDC recommends the yellow fever vaccine for travelers 9 months of age or older to these areas. For more information on this recommendation, see yellow fever recommendations and requirements for Brazil. (Source: Brazil Ministry of Health).
Is malaria another risk? Yes, but as we said previously we don’t have a high mosquito concentration around the lodge, which means there is a very small chance you’ll be infected by a mosquito, and you can always wear pants and long sleeves t-shirts when hiking in the jungle and count on repellent as well. By the way, check: Amazon Rainforest, what to pack.
Another risk that exists, basicaly, anywhere you go is becoming ill from local food and water, but that is easy to prevent: we recommend drinking bottled water and eating fresh food, and Juma Lodge is here to provide you all that!
