Learn more about the Amazon and the Juma Lodge: a jungle hotel

Juma Amazon Lodge

On the banks of the Juma River, in the heart of the Amazon rainforest, a project flourishes that combines sustainability, flavor, and environmental awareness. Our floating organic garden, located in the municipality of Autazes (Amazonas, Brazil), supplies the Juma Lodge kitchen with fresh, pesticide-free ingredients grown in harmony with nature.

Developed using agroecological and sustainable farming techniques, the garden is specially adapted to the Amazon’s unique conditions. Elevated garden beds, rich in nutrients and beneficial microorganisms, are shaded with mesh screens to regulate sunlight and carefully managed to thrive in the region’s humidity and heat.

Our organic garden:

🍅 What do we grow here?

  • Fresh vegetables: lettuce, arugula, kale, eggplant, broccoli, and cherry tomatoes.
🌿 Aromatic herbs: rosemary, basil, garlic chives, celery, cilantro, and Amazon chicory.
🌶️ A variety of peppers: biquinho, American malagueta, cambuci, sweet pepper, and bell pepper.
🍃 Medicinal and functional plants: lemongrass, lemon balm, mint, spearmint, and ginger.
🌻 Companion species like sunflowers, rue, guiné, and marigolds help balance the ecosystem by attracting pollinators and naturally repelling pests—no synthetic chemicals needed.

This garden plays a key role in reducing the lodge’s ecological footprint, minimizing food transportation from Manaus and promoting organic waste reuse.

More than just a source of food, the garden is a space for learning and connection—raising environmental awareness among our guests, staff, and the local community.

The project is developed in partnership with Hortelar, a leading company in agroecological systems and organic farming solutions in Brazil.
