Learn more about the Amazon and the Juma Lodge: a jungle hotel

Pack Your Bags

A while ago we have written a post called: Amazon Rainforest: what to pack? and until the present day it’s one of the most read posts of our blog. So we thought it was about time we wrote a new post concerning this matter to share with all of you and possibly help you organize your luggage in a way you don’t forget to bring the most important items without carrying unnecessary weight.

Light weight, fast drying, breathable and moisture wicking clothes fit best for the jungle’s climate. We also would like to take this moment to talk a little bit about colors. Neutral colors are better for the jungle! It’s easier to mask yourself with the colors of the forest so you won’t scare the possible animals away. We recommend  you choose light green, shades of grey, beige… If you already have or are willing to buy, clothes that provide sun protection is also a great idea.

OUTDOOR TOURS

  • Light t-shirts (dry-fit is a good option)
  • Long-sleeved shirts
  • At least 2 pair of pants (Cargo, tactel, polyester, nylon…)
  • Comfortable walking shoes or jungle boots
  • Sunhat
  • Comfortable long socks for walking (you can use them over the pants)
  • Raincoat or rain poncho
  • Binoculars
  • Sunglasses
  • Sun cream SPF 30 or higher (or water resistant sun cream)
  • Insect repellent (even though in Juma’s Region the water acidity level is high and mosquitoes don’t reproduce)
  • Camera
  • A backpack or a good fanny pack
  • Scarf (It can protect you from the sun, from bugs falling into your shirt or you can dip it in water and wear it wet to cool you temperature down)
  • Dry bags to seal off any electronic equipments you want to take to the jungle

AT THE HOTEL

  • Flashlight
  • Cotton T-shirts
  • Jeans or cotton trousers
  • A sweater for cooler hours
  • Shorts
  • Bathing suit
  • Sandals
  • Sneakers or any other comfortable closed toe shoes
  • Personal medication

An advice to not over-pack is to take one set of clothes for the day and another one for the night, considering how many days you’ll spend in the jungle.

We also would like to point out that your suitcase should weigh up to 10 kg (about 22 pounds), if you have more luggage you can leave them at our office located in Manaus.
